Guidance on Optimal Management Structures has been updated and published in response to findings of the APS Hierarchy and Classification Review and consultation with staff, agencies and unions. 

Subject to the passage of legislation, changes to the Public Service Act 1999 are underway to enable decision-making to be undertaken at the lowest appropriate classification.

APSC to review SES and non-SES classification levels and structures (including Work Level Standards) against best practice and future needs.CompleteThe APSC published the Hierarchy and Classification Review in 2022. The APS will act on many of the Review’s findings, but will not make changes to classifications at this stage. Instead, the APS will take steps to achieve the Review’s intent, including the implementation of more modern structures and ways of working.
