Creating a common purpose for the APS

Creating a common purpose for the APS

Given the associated amendments to the Public Service Act 1999 that would have required a purpose statement are not proceeding, Secretaries Board has considered and respected the views of parliamentarians and decided not to proceed at this time.

The intention for the purpose statement was to unify our workforce, to engage public servants across the country in a shared sense of service, and to reflect a contemporary, diverse and innovative APS.

The deliberative approach used to date ensured many voices were heard and demonstrated the passion of the APS for serving the public.

The wealth of information harnessed and the outcomes are valuable. The insights gathered will continue to be used when communicating with the Service. The sentiment will sit at the heart of the culture change that the APSC is driving.
