Opportunities to be involved with APS Reform

Are you ready for something new, but not ready to change careers just yet? Would you like to add some high profile experiences in a central agency to your CV? Are you on the bench with limited engagements on the horizon?

Try a short-term opportunity in the APS Reform Office at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The opportunity
We are looking for passionate and results-driven people to contribute to the future of the Australian Public Service (APS), working on short- to medium-term projects to support the APS Reform agenda.

There are several opportunities for professionals from across the APS and the wider community to work in the APS Reform Office. The opportunities range from 3 to 12 months and are open to all Australian citizens with or without public sector experience. Whether you are a seasoned expert or just starting out, there are a number of high-profile projects on offer including opportunities in strategic policy, policy projects and methodology, and public administration.

The culture
In the APS Reform Office we are seeking innovators, creators, do-ers, and thinkers to be a part of a once-in-a-generation change to build integrity, strengthen capability, and make the APS a great place to work. You will play a part in shaping the conversation with the APS about how it works to improve the lives of the Australian community.

The four pillars of the reform agenda are: having integrity in all that we do, putting people and business at the centre of policy and services, being a model employer, and having the capability to do the job well. These pillars drive our culture and the way we engage with our colleagues.

Who we want
We want people with passion. Whether you’re an experienced leader or a new career starter, if you’ve got great ideas, an enquiring mind, courage, and tenacity, we want you to join us and help make a difference.

We want to see:

  • systems thinkers with a thirst for knowledge; those who can find and make contributions, turn ideas into action, and operate in ambiguity and a fluid environment

  • natural relationship builders who can harness their networks to build genuine partnerships at all levels across the APS and beyond

  • courageous, creative, ethical people who exemplify what it means to operate with integrity, respect and empathy.

These non-ongoing placements will span 3 to 12 months. You will be paid between the APS 5 and EL2 band rates (see PM&C’s Enterprise Agreement for indicative salary bands). If you do not already hold a Baseline Vetting (Protected) security clearance, you must be able to obtain and maintain one.

Projects are available on a full- or part-time basis, and successful candidates will work in our Canberra office or remotely. Flexible working arrangements are a hallmark of our way of working.

So what are you waiting for? If you are considering a career change or want to expand your horizons, express your interest with a cover letter or video pitch and your CV.
