Across the APS, we are committed to building an APS that delivers human and user-centred policy and service excellence. The new APS Charter of Partnerships and Engagement provides a consistent engagement and partnership framework for the APS through a set of principles.
To better support you to implement the principles in the Charter, the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC) has released Good Practice Guidance.
The Charter of Partnerships and Engagement principles are relevant to all APS employees. They can be particularly helpful if you are:
- undertaking consultation with the public to build best practice policy
- engaging and consulting with your colleagues across the APS to undertake your work
- engaging with people and communities, non-government sectors, academia and industries to develop more fit for purpose services.
About the guidance
The guidance links to international and domestic best practice to help agencies apply the Charter of Partnerships and Engagement principles practically. It is a front door to a range of extra support APS employees to:
- build their partnership and engagement capabilities
- understand what each principle means when partnering or engaging
- tips on what to avoid
- useful tools including a self-assessment tool that can be used in projects to ensure that specific steps are undertaken to address each principle.
The guidance is intended to support what already exists in your department.
